Joe Melchiorre’s father, Nick, opened the first barbershop in Levittown, N.J. (later renamed Willingboro) back in 1959. He brought with him a barbering tradition with roots in South Philadelphia – the city’s Italian-American hub – where he was raised and started his career in the 1940s.
Still in high school at the time, Joe joined the family business in the 1960s. From there, he built Plaza Barber & Hairstyling into one of South Jersey’s most trusted and consistent businesses of any kind. Joe had to move the shop a couple times over the years before settling in his current location in Burlington Township, N.J. (Yes, Plaza Barber & Hairstyling outlasted entire shopping centers.) But, the shop adapted to changing times and changing styles by staying true to its roots and its unwavering commitment to quality service. It’s why so many customers come back year after year for generations.
Those other shops with the revolving door of haircutters? Nope, that’s not Plaza Barber & Hairstyling.
Today, Joe works side-by-side with his son, Joe Jr., and a talented staff with decades of experience and generations of happy customers.
So, please, stop by. Be a part of this great tradition.
